Huntsville, Ontario - Muskoka Travel Restrictions For G8

Road Travel restrictions are now in full effect in The Hunsville Area for the G8

Restricted Access .....  

A section of Highway 60 and local roads, including Muskoka Road 23 (Canal Road), closest to Deerhurst Resort will not be accessible except to those with proper accreditations: emergency services workers, residents and employees of local businesses.

Bypass the restrictions on Highway 60.

Alternate routes as a result of restrictions to a section of Highway 60 near Deerhurst Resort. Cars traveling through the area, semi-trailer trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles should use Highway 118 and 35.

Residential access only

No detour or through traffic will be allowed on Harp Lake Road or Williamsport Road. They will be accessible only to residents on these roads or those visiting them. 

Limberlost Road, Highway 60 east of Hidden Valley Road

Residents living on these roads or travelling to and from Limberlost Road and Highway 60 east of the easternmost security gate will have to travel east on Highway 60 and south on Muskoka Road #9 (South Portage Road), to access the southern detour route to go to Huntsville.

Through-traffic: heavy commercial vehicles and cars will be rerouted to Highways 11, 35 and 118

Cars traveling through the area, semi-trailer trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles should use Highway 118 to bypass the restrictions on Highway 60.

  • Those coming from the South will get off Highway 11 at Highway 118 and proceed to Highway 35 and then Highway 60, east of the restricted area.
  • Those coming from the North will have to go past Huntsville to Highway 118.

Local commercial traffic, delivery trucks and heavy vehicles

Delivery trucks and other heavy vehicles from the local Huntsville area will be able to use the following alternate routes to bypass the restricted section of Highway 60: Muskoka roads 3, 9 (South Portage Road) and 10 (Britannia Road) and Brunel Road.

Car-only roads

Certain area roads have been identified for cars only. They include: White House and West Brown roads, in addition to Muskoka Road 10 (Britannia Road)

Kathy...first a Canadian Earthquake and now strong restrictions on some busy roadways; did not even realize that Canada was the site for a G-8 summit.  Needed posting for your area, & any summer-vacationers coming your way. Have a good rest of the week.

Hi Kathy, your consumers will sure appreciate this post.  It is a shame that such security precautions have to be made, but it is such a different world today than when I grew up.  The G-8 Summit has been a lightning rod for lots of protests in the past several years.

Bruce - the G20 will have an even bigger impact on Toronto as many people who normally work in the area being cordoned off are being told to say home during the G20.
